Description: |
The digital library of the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF, National Library of France) comprises 6.7 million documents (as of May 2020). These include around 692,000 books (more than half of which are full-text searchable), 176,000 maps, 146,000 manuscripts, 1.4 million images, 51,000 music scores, 51,000 sound recordings and over 4 million issues of magazines and newspapers. The majority are copyright-free works (whose author has been dead for at least 70 years) from the holdings of the BnF. In addition, a third of the 70,000 prints currently digitised by the BnF per year come from around fifty partner libraries. The content focus is on French cultural history from the Middle Ages to the end of the 19th century, including fiction, scientific literature, dictionaries, journals and manuscripts. Most copyright-free books and journals can be downloaded free of charge for non-commercial use.
