Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workers make important contributions to improve the nation's living standards, economic growth, and global competitiveness. More than 36 million people worked in STEM occupations in 2021, accounting for 24% of U.S. workers. Workers in STEM occupations are shown to experience higher employment rates and higher median earnings than their non-STEM counterparts.
